Brown

Nestled in the heart of the vibrant New Farm suburb in inner Brisbane, this architectural transformation breathes new life into Browne, an existing 1980s double-story brickwork residence. A young family’s vision for their home was one of evolution, a desire to retain the structure’s essence while ushering it gracefully into the contemporary era, negating the need for demolition.

Respecting the robust language of the original house, our approach involved a layering of modern architectural design elements onto the street edge. This addition not only elevates the quality of the streetscape but also establishes a sense of privacy and security for the occupants within. The existing brickwork was rendered, and a lightweight timber screen was introduced, creating a delicate balance with the heavy-built nature of the house.

At the rear, the introduction of a kitchen and dining wing, seamlessly extending to an outdoor room.  This space becomes a transitional zone, connecting the interior with a new pool and the landscape beyond. It is an intentional interplay of private retreats and communal spaces.

Brown eagerly awaits its young family in this tightly-knit community of New Farm.
