Parkana

In the coastal enclave of Buddina on the Sunshine Coast, Parkana emerges as a thoughtful reinterpretation, blending refurbishment and addition to an existing seaside dwelling from the 1990s. Aiming to rekindle a connection with its spectacular surroundings, the design introduces vertical elements to maximize the expansive views of the harbor and ocean.

Nestled on a slope up from the street, Parkana is accessed via a stairway connecting the original and new sections. The existing home contain bedrooms and private spaces, while the new extension features an open-plan kitchen and sitting room extending to a rear courtyard and pool. Ascending, the middle level reveals a master suite with harbor views, culminating in a top-level open roof deck offering panoramic vistas of the ocean and Glasshouse Mountains.

Beyond a holiday retreat, Parkana is a canvas for family gatherings. The residence’s intentional scale accommodates the creation of shared experiences. Materials pay homage to the construction legacy of old coastal homes, integrating the structure into its surroundings. New landscape walls shape a courtyard on the street side, seamlessly connecting Parkana with its coastal context.

More than a dwelling, Parkana is an invitation to embrace the coastal spirit and forge enduring connections with both the landscape and each other.
